Trophy of the FIBA World Championship for Men.Argentina advanced into the 2010 FIBA World Championship quarterfinals by beating a resilient Brazil squad, 93-89, on Tuesday. Argentina meets Lithuania, winners over China earlier, on Thursday.

Houston Rockets power forward Luis Scola led Argentina with 37 points and 9 rebounds. The Milwaukee Bucks’ Carlos Delfino added 20 while Hernan Jasen scored 15 points for the winning team.

Brazil led 48-46 at the half behind Marcelo Huertas’ 17 points. The fourth quarter began with the score knotted at 66-66 until Leandro Barbosa drilled in two three-point shots to push Brazil ahead 72-66.Argentina retaliated with back to back triples from Hernan Jasen to pull even at 72-all.

The hardworking Luis Scola dominated in the end game by pumping in 12 points in the fourth quarter to preserve victory for Argentina.

Marcelo Huertas topscored for Brazil with 32 points. Leandro Barbosa chipped in 20 points but his bad shot selection sealed their fate.

It was a long wait for the world basketball championship to finally happen and our long wait is now over as the FIBA World Championship will go through from August 28, 2010 – September 12, 2010 with the host country, Turkey, opened the event with a bang. We are kicking of the most exciting basketball event with the load of schedules of matches today.

One of the biggest contender this year is none other than of course the champion of the Beijing Olympic, United States with star studded lineup from the National Basketball Association. Unfortunately as it may seems, the United States team lack the key players it has back in the Beijing Olympics as at least  12 players from the original team will not be playing the dream team.

Let us move to the schedule of matches for the knockout round for round of 16 that will go on from September 4 to 7 for the FIBA World Championship 2010.

(September 4) – Serbia (73) vs Croatia (72) and Spain (80) vs Greece (72) “Group 1″

(September 5) – Turkey (95) vs France (77) and Slovenia (87) vs Australia (58) “Group 2″

(September 6) – USA (121) vs Angola (66) and Russia (78) vs New Zealand (56) “Group 3″

(September 7) – Lithuania (78) vs China (67) and Argentina vs Brazil “Group 4″

The schedule of matches for the quarterfinals will go on from September 8 to 9 for the FIBA World Championship 2010.

(September 8 ) – Serbia vs Spain and Turkey vs Slovenia

(September 9 ) – USA vs Russia and Lithuania vs winner of Argentina vs Brazil

The championship is almost near and all of the teams which qualified for the round of 16 will be performing at their top form as a single loss in this elimination round would spell the end for their aspiration to win the FIBA World Championship for 2010.
